Catalogue text

This painting is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Kayili Artists that states: ‘Kungarrangkalpa is the story of the Seven Sister Creation Beings who were pursued by the man Yurla. In this painting Esther has shown the Seven Sisters at Mangurri, a place near Tjukurla where they made a witja (shelter) from tjanpi (native grasses). When the sisters were sitting inside, Yurla snuck around outside, spying on them and trying to get inside. The sisters had to escape from Yurla so they flew to Katarda, then onto Parruru, Wanyan, Wakula, and kept going east.’
